SUN CITY CENTER TENNIS ASSOCIATION

RULES AND REGULATIONS

The purpose of these Rules and Regulations is to establish priorities and controls for fair, efficient, and practical use of our tennis courts and equipment for the optimum benefit of all our members.  These Rules and Regulations have been developed from years of experience, and are presented for your information and guidance.

 

MEMBERSHIP

 

Sun City Center Community Association (CA) membership is a prerequisite for membership in the Sun City Center Tennis Association (TA).

 

TA membership offers the options of: (1) priority use of all courts during specified periods, (2) reserving courts for individual play and practice, (3) use of TA owned ball machines, and (4) participating in TA sponsored tournaments, social activities, and special events.

 

Membership also assumes an agreement on the part of each member to comply with these Rules and Regulations, attend scheduled meetings, and volunteer time and effort for various committees and court maintenance.

 

ORGANIZATION

 

The TA operates as an official SCC club under control of the CA and is administered within, by an Executive Board which operates under published by-laws, copies of which are available upon request.

 

DUES

 

TA members are required to pay annual dues, the amount of which is determined by the membership each year. A listing of paid members will be posted on the court bulletin boards.

 

COURT USAGE

 

All members of the CA and their qualified guests are eligible to use all CA tennis courts, and are required to comply with these Rules and Regulations.

 

Only TA members and their qualified guests may reserve courts during the following priority periods:

                                                             7:30 AM – 12:00 Noon        EVERYDAY

                                                             5:30 PM – 10:00 PM   (Lighted courts) TUE/WED/THU

League play with non-TA members and other clubs is not allowed prior to 10:30 AM, except as noted below:

As specified by the CA-approved Competitive Tennis Club (CTC) / TA court-use Agreement of 1 March 2007, the CTC will have priority use of courts #1 through #5 at 10:30 AM on any two weekdays, and at 9:00 AM on Saturdays, if the advance scheduling requirements of the Agreement are met. Court #7 may be scheduled for CTC play instead of court #5.

 

All CA members and their qualified guests may reserve courts for afternoon time periods not restricted above. Courts may be reserved by writing the name of the player on the Afternoon Schedule posted on the court bulletin board weekly.

 

Open courts may be used by all CA members and their qualified guests during any time period. They may sign-up for open courts at the time of play, on a first come, first served basis.

 

Qualified guests are house guests of CA members. A Òhouse guestÓ is defined as one whose permanent residence is at least 25 miles from Sun City Center, who is currently staying overnight at the residence of a CA member or is being housed at a local inn or motel. Any non-CA member, not qualifying as a house guest, may play as a guest one day per month. He must be a guest of, and play with, a CA member who is responsible for the conduct of the guest.

 

Proper attire is a requirement when on the courts, which include a shirt, and footwear that does not damage court surfaces.

Good manners are expected of all players at all times, which includes refraining from loud conversation, profanity, or any activity that would reasonably be considered to be disturbing to players on adjacent courts. If serious player problems develop, they should be brought to the attention of a TA Executive Board member.

 

Players are expected to provide reasonable assistance in keeping the courts clean and playable.

 

PRIORITY COURT RESERVATIONS

 

Only TA members and their qualified guests may reserve courts using the card reservation system. 

 

Boxes containing cards for reserving courts (Monday–Saturday) are located at the TA bulletin board. 

 

The weekly reservationist will collect all cards after 10:30 AM Friday to compile the following weeks court schedule  The schedule will be posted no later than 9:00 AM Saturday on the TA bulletin board. The posted schedule will show the assigned date, time, specific court, and playerÕs names. 

 

Court reservations cards will be given the following priority for the weekly schedule:

            First Priority:      Doubles matches

            Second Priority: Singles matches

            Third Priority:     League play with non-TA members and other clubs, and only at 10:30 AM or later. Note exception for CTC league play under ÒCOURT USAGEÓ.

 

If reservations are to be cancelled, one of the players involved should paste a blank sticker over the scheduled court/time slot. Stickers will be available at the bulletin boards.

 

After weekly reservations are posted, additional reservations may be written in by TA members or their guests on the posted sheet located at the courts which you wish to play.

 

The Executive Board, may pre-reserve courts for special events, normally in non-prime time; i.e. afternoons and weekends. Special events include activities such as; leagues, tournaments, social mixers, clinics, and court maintenance.

 

TENNIS LESSONS

 

Only TA members are eligible to use the courts for tennis lessons. Members may reserve courts after the weekly schedule has been posted. No lessons prior to 10:30 A.M. At the 10:30 time slot, lessons are limited to court #10 and only if court #9 is an open court. After 12:00 Noon, other courts may be used if the adjacent court is an open court.

 

TA members must pay lesson fees only by checks made payable to the SCCTA.

 

The instructor must have each individual complete the sign-in form with the following information: name, date, CA number, amount paid.  The instructor will submit the sign-in form and checks to the TA treasurer or his/her designated representative.

 

Once a month the TA treasurer will issue a check to the instructor in the amount collected less 1 dollar per lesson or an equal percentage.  The treasurer will submit an IRS Form 1099 if an instructor receives more than $600.00 in fees during the fiscal year.

 

Failure to comply with any of the above rules and regulations will result in the immediate revocation of an instructorÕs teaching privileges.

BALL MACHINE

 

TA members, who have qualified for operation of the machine, are eligible to use any ball machine owned by the TA.  Instruction on ball machine operation is available by prior arrangement. House guests of TA members may use the ball machine when being operated by the TA member. 

 

No ball machine use prior to 10:30 A.M. At the 10:30 time slot, ball machine use is limited to court #5 and only if court #6 is an open court or occupied by a member using another ball machine. If court #5 can not be made available, court #1 could be used if court #2 is an open court or occupied by a member using another ball machine. After 12:00 Noon, other courts may be used if the adjacent court is an open court or occupied by a member using another ball machine.

PROHIBITED ACTIVITIES

 

The following activities are prohibited within the Tennis Court Complex: (Other than the parking lot)

 

á       Driving of golf carts except by maintenance personnel

á       Riding, walking and storing of bicycles

á       Walking or having dogs or other pets in the complex (except for service dogs)

á       Smoking
